How we became more serious about aquarium as a hobby.

It all began with ... ...

Aino had restored her old desk and thought it might be nice with a 6 square aquarium she could just look at when she sewed, so we had bought such a little aquarium, and fish for it, and Ryan persuaded Aino about 3 pangasius sharks when he was quite fond of them.

It started it all, but still somewhat green in the area.

These 3 pangasius grew fairly rapidly, they could not be in the 6 square aquarium for too long, so we found Aino's 160L tank with table and lamp, etc. The 3 pangasius got into that fish tank, but it seemed rather empty, we all missed having Malawi cichlids, so we had to buy some of them. It did not work out, The Malawi cichlids could not tolerate the pangasius and simply killed them.

So now have a 6 square fish tank and a 160L Malawi.

Shortly after we find out that our smallest son's vision was much worse than we thought, he needed very strong glasses, so we talked about trying to get a larger aquarium, which could be of great help to train his eyes when there was looked after fish - crabs which where hiding. So we went hunting for a larger aquarium, while we looked after one, we talked about selling the other aquarium, we were never to put an ad up, because a colleague of Ryans would like to buy it, it was just the size he was looking for.

Suddenly one day we were very lucky, there was a 660L for sale, a price if you took it with everything inside, a cheaper price if you took it without, we had no use for fish and such, for we already had a little. We phoned the owner and arranged that we picked it up the day after.

This large aquarium was an incredibly good decision, we are very pleased with it, our youngest son had a good start with the glasses on, spent much time in front of it, he can still enjoy looking at it and find females brooding, etc. It brings joy to all of us and our guests.

Along the way we find out that some animal dealers sell you what you like, without telling whether they would go together or whether they are suitable for the size aquarium you have.

We have learned we have much more satisfied Malawi cichlids in a larger aquarium, where there is good movement freedom with lots of hiding places, so there is room for several territories.

So our advice would be:
Do you see a fish you'd like, go home and search online and find info about it before purchase.
So you are sure to meet the fishs requirements, you get one / several more happy fish and a better experience.

Carrier never blind in the first information you will find, it can be quite wrong and a pet salesman does not necessarily ha his job as a hobby.
